Cork floors are just a bit different

Made from Cork Oak Tree bark, cork flooring can be harvested without ever having to cut the actual tree from which it’s harvested. This method allows the tree to live to the ripe old age of 200 years in some cases, making it one of the most earth-friendly floor coverings available. Since the bark can grow back in an average of 9 to 12 years, it can provide a lot of flooring in its lifespan.

Much of the durability found in cork flooring is attributed to its resilience and the fact that it can easily be compressed to spring back. This also creates an impressively comfortable surface to walk on or stand on for long periods such as happens in kitchens around the country. Another thing that makes kitchen placement perfect is that dropping dishes is not likely to result in breakage. There is likely to be a dent in the flooring if the item was heavy, but that will disappear quickly.

Other benefits include a natural resistance to insects, mold, and mildew, thanks to a naturally occurring substance called suberin. Bacteria and pests are not welcome and they know it, so you're not going to see these anywhere this flooring is installed. Safety is also assured, as cork is also naturally fire retardant. Again, this makes it perfect for kitchens.
